Hosteling is one of the best ways to meet people while traveling. The Apple Hostel is the only Philly hostel located in Center City in Philadelphia. The staff are friendly and knowledgeable, and the location is ideal for a stay in Philly if you want to be right in the middle of the action.
The Chamounix Mansion is a great Philadelphia hostel, located in Fairmount park. While it’s not in the direct center of action, it’s a bus ride or a short bike ride into the city. The hostel itself lends out bikes and helmets, and the managers and staff are very friendly (if you can’t tell, we like that) and helpful. The location is beautiful, extremely safe and the parking is free. They also have a large number of beds, so it’s great for large groups as well.
Couch Surfing is our personal favorite way to travel. It ensures that you meet at least one local, get genuine advice on what to do and see by the people that live in the place you’re traveling to, and often means you get to see something you wouldn’t find staying at a hostel or hotel. If you’re not familiar with Couch Surfing, we recommend you check out the site for more information. The Philly CS community is very active and generally has multiple events per week. Even if you’re not staying with a CSer, the events are worth checking out.
Stay in a Bed and Breakfast the way you want it. There are plenty of spots to choose from, check out their site for more info on their concept.
