Franklin Institute

The Franklin Institute is a science museum made for kids, and enjoyed by everyone. It’s as much a must-see museum in Philadelphia as any other.

The Mutter Museum is probably the most unique museum in Philadelphia. Well, it’s probably the most unique museum we’ve ever been to, for that matter. Featuring a large collection of “medical oddities”, you can see on display a large skull collection, all sorts of fetus abnormalities, and grim examples of western medicine in its less developed forms. It’s not for the faint of heart or squeamish, but it is for everyone else.

You can hear all about Isiah Zagar and his colorful mosaics on our Colonial Cheesesteak Tour, but if you want to check out his masterwork, the Magic Gardens is highly recommended. We list it under museums, and there is one inside, but the coolest thing about this place is working your way through the maze-like outside area and looking at the intricate 3D mosaic work. It’s really neat, and at the very least worth passing by.
